Bug Description

Binary package hint: kernel-image-2.6.27-11-generic-di

I'm running two SCSI hard disk drives with Unbuntu distribution installed on them, first is root (/) and seond is (/home). The computer also has three ATA hard disk drives that are formated NTFS and an ATA CD-ROM drive that is located as second device on secondary controller. I have had no problem with accessing all devices in kernel 2.6.27-7 and 2.6.27-9 but kernel 2.6.27-11 does not detect the ATA CD-ROM drive. When I drop back to one of the older kernels, the CD-ROM is accessible.

I have the same problem with totally different hardware (IBM R40 laptop with DVD-ROM). With kernel 2.6.27-11 the DVD-ROM doesn't recognised.

With kerel 2.6.24-23 everything works fine.

Somebody else have the same problem, reported in ubuntu forums:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1003447

(I also updated from 8.04 to 8.10. I'm not sure that this caused the problem).

About 10 days ago, there was an update to the kernal 2.6.27-11, but the
problem was not fixed in the update.

Hi WadeDesk,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/lucid.

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 327468

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
