Bug Description
Binary package hint: usb-creator
When I start the installation process, the progress bar doesn't move off from the "Starting Up" point, and nothing happens for a considerable time. The terminal shows an error "Forcing shutdown of the install process".
I thought this was bug 295212, but I have mtools installed so I don't think that is the same cause.
Paste from terminal output below, please let me know what other logs could be useful.

I've tried this with the version of usb-creator in Jaunty. It doesn't hang anymore, but rather gives an immediate error message:
"Error installing the bootloader."
Apport reports that the syslinux program crashed. I'm going to attach the crash report.
