Bug Description

When trying to place a PNG picture in a OOo Writer document using Insert -> Picture -> From file ... the dimensions are distorted. The image gets stretched verticaly in this case.

The image was created with Gimp but open fine in other applications. The same image converted to jpeg also has this problem. It seems as though OOo tries to make all rectangular images square.

Seen on Dapper with OOo 2.0.1-0ubuntu4.

Importing this picture into OOo illustrates the problem.

This image specifies a resolution of 93dpi x 72 dpi. If you take this into account, the dimensions that OpenOffice.org use suddenly make sense.

Should probably close this. Was this selection of dpi values intentional?

'Was this selection of dpi values intentional?' No, this is simply what Gimp produced after cropping a screenshot. Perhaps is should be reported as a Gnome bug or screenshot-app bug instead. I'll investigate further.

Various image-based applications like eye-of-gnome display it correctly, ingnoring the DPI setting, but I can see how a print-based app like OOo might choose to use the dpi setting even if wonky. I guess it's either not a bug or a feature request for a parameter to ignore DPI. Closing.
