Bug Description

Binary package hint: inkscape

Clicking 'maximise' on an Inkscape wonder only affects the vertical size.

To change the horizontal width of the window, the corners must be dragged.

Ideally maximise should work like every other application and expand in both directions.

and personal experience. FWIW, bling is disabled, so the Window Manager is _not_ compiz.

I'm not 100% sure this is a dupe of bug #168648.

Inkscape should fully maximize (when told to by the WM). I can confirm this issue (the main app window does not resize horizontally when told to 'maximize') on ubuntu 8.10 with gnome/metacity as the WM - no compiz. If memory serves, this is recent - 0.45 acted properly (on the same OS).

I think this is actually a dupe of bug #206098

If you enable desktop effects (compiz), Inkscape maximizes properly. Turning off compiz and returning to metacity causes the problem to reappear. My guess is an issue with metacity.

In 0.46 the tool bar got some new icons that made it too tall for some
vertical resolutions. In svn this issue is solved by using a
collapsible toolbar.

This works with compiz because compiz may deal differently with larger
than normal maximized windows. Doesn't the window jump up and down
when you click on it? Here it does (800px and the default Ubuntu
panels).

It would be nice if 0.47 was ready for Jaunty, but I searched once or
twice and I can't find a release date (when it's ready?) for it.

There have been some solutions proposed for this issue: smaller icons,
the already implemented collapsible toolbar, etc. Or someone has the
time and means to backport the toolbar fix, or we'll have to wait for
0.47...

IMHO this is an issue with Inkscape that shows that Metacity deals in
a weird way with windows that aren't well maximized because they're
too large. So maybe this is two different issues. :-)
