Bug Description

I just did a fresh install of Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty alpha 4. I did a apt-get update and a apt-get install ubuntu-netbook-remix and restarted. After logging in, a mix of the regular gnome interface and the ubuntu remix interface started. They seemed to "compete" with each other, and the whole thing hangs more and more as the seconds pass.

The lower gnome panel fills up with an increasing amount of icons. I think they were referring to File Manager.

A "ps" in a terminal didn't reveal any unusual amount of processes. "top" reveals that the top three processes (compiz.real, Xorg, nautilus) uses 13, 8 and 7% CPU, but the total is 75%. I get a warning about the mixer applet being a problem as well. After a minute or two, the system is totally unresponsive.

I have tried turning off all compiz acceleration, but that didn't help. If I use a regular gnome desktop, there are no problems.

This was a bug in desktop-switcher, the fix has been committed to trunk and new debs will be appearing this week.

As a side note, you can't use compiz + unr in netbook mode on Intel and ATI graphics cards (unless you've managed to get DRI2 working). You'll get lot's of artefacts on screen, so it's best to use metacity for now.

Thanks for the bug fix, I'm looking forward to the new debs. To the side note, compiz with full acceleration works without glitches on a default gnome desktop on my computer. But I'll try not to be disappointed if it doesn't work in unr :)
