Bug Description

The Ubuntu netbook-remix project's maximus application (perhaps in combination with the human-netbook theme) causes major trouble with the tunnelmanager when the app is configured to minimize to the system tray. Something makes strange use of the iconified state when the window is not actually iconified, and the tunnel manager incorrectly interprets this to mean that the window should be hidden again after it is deiconified. This in turn prevents the window from ever being displayed.

This must be fixed in the next version.

When the window is deiconified, always call the show method. This solves most of the problem, although it appears to prevent the title bar from being hidden. Also, with maximus running, deiconification of the window is still unreliable ... though it works much better. There's still some investigation and experimentation to be done to get this to work better, even with the proposed fox.

Workaround: either disable minimize to tray altogether or add tunnelmanager to the list of excluded apps for maximus using gconf-editor.

I've thought about this a bit more, and decided that there's no reason for maximus to do anything with the tunnelmanager app. My prefered approach here will be to simply disable maximus for the tunnelmanager. Hopefully, this can be done at install somehow, but if not, then checking for and setting the necessary gconf value at init should work.

I don't have a netbook running a version of ubuntu intended specifically for netbooks any more, so I have not idea whether this is even still an issue. Nobody else seems to care, so I don't think any work is going to be done here.
