Bug Description

This problem affects Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04 alpha 4/intel 945gm:
When I try to start an application/game in fullscreen mode or switch to fullscreen mode the apps start but I get no image. The games (tried Professor Fizzwizzle, wine/starcraft, supertuxkart, alien-arena) are running fine (sound is present), just the image is missing (monitor stays black).

There is no difference if I run the games in KDE 4.2 or from the plain xterm. In Ubuntu intrepid all these games work fine in fullscreen mode.

Any suggestions?

Thank you for reporting this bug and helping making ubuntu better. It is great that you got to try many games and that you eliminated the possibility that it is a KDE problem. Could you please upload the following information?
- /var/log/Xorg.0.log
- /etc/X11/xorg.conf if you made any changes to this
- the output of `lspci -vvnn`

Maybe you could try to experiment a little with options in the Device section of xorg.conf and see if it makes a difference.
Option "AccelMethod" "UXA"
Option "AccelMethod" "XAA"
Option "Tiling" "false"
Option "FramebufferCompression" "false"
are things you could try.

Removing Option "AccelMethod" "UXA" -> EXA is used: same problem + KDE is extreme slow
Using Option "AccelMethod" "XAA" -> breaks X in the worst way I ever saw (flickering, unreadable screen + can't switch to a text console)

Using
Option "Tiling" "false"
Option "FramebufferCompression" "false
-> same problem

There is a similar bug, bug 292549, but in that case turning off FramebufferCompression would remove the symptoms, so I'm guessing it's not exactly the same.

I was about to ask if you could report your EXA vs. UXA findings on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/UxaTesting , but I see that you already have done that :-)

This bug seems to be fixed by the xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.6.1-1ubuntu2 update.
After upgrading my system today I can't reproduce this bug. The only problem is fullscreen mode with Professor Fizzwizzle (and this seems to be a KWin desktop effect problem).

=> fixed for me

Another 945GM user (bug 324292) also reports that the update fixed his fullscreen issue, so I'm closing this bug.
