Forgot to mention that the error occurs each time I try to start pidgin, also if I remove ~/.purple as I had done for the previous attachment.
The previous attachment contains the output when running 'pidgin -d'.

There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates.
