Bug Description

Binary package hint: mythtv-status

Mythtv status (version 0.7.3-2ubuntu2) has been sending annoying emails to root every 10 minutes on my machine. (Related to, but *not* the same as bug 311532.) Mythtv-status has also been clobbering other motd altering scripts on my machine (such as the one notifying me of available updates). It turns out that these two issues can be fixed with the same fix.

mythtv-status is using its own system to update the motd. On the jaunty system I'm running, there is already a nice motd update mechanism in place that has two advantages:

  a) it doesn't have the bug that causes an error to root when it updates, and
  b) it doesn't clobber other motd update scripts.

The fix then is simple. Remove the mythtv-status init script, and add a script in /etc/update-motd.d/ that calls mythtv-status.

Be well,

Will

Hi,

Yes, I agree that on Jaunty this is the right way to solve this issue. I'm also quite keen to port update-motd to Debian so I can resolve this issue (although it hasn't been reported on Debian) there.

Cheers!
