Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

Using Kubuntu Jaunty A4 64 bit kernel 2.6.28-6-generic #17-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jan 30 15:35:08 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux. If I drag an opened window from one screen to the screen edge so that some of the window is no longer shown, the missing part is not shown on the second desktop as expected (and doesn't show on any other desktops). I do not have compiz installed or enabled with this OS. See attached pictures.

[This is an automated message]

In Jaunty (9.04), we have just updated to the latest
nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 package from nVidia, version 180.44.

This package provides fixes for a large number of bugs, and we need your
assistance in testing if it fixes the issue you reported.

To do this, please do the following:

 a. Update to the 180.44 version of -nvidia using your favorite update
     method

 b. Attempt to reproduce your bug

 c. If your bug still remains, please simply reply to this email
     indicating so.

 d. If your bug is now solved, you can help us by setting your bug
     report to Fix Released:
     * In launchpad, go to your bug report
     * Click on the downward pointing arrow under Status
     * Set the Status field to 'Fix Released'
     * Comment on the change, such as, 'Verified fixed in 180.44'
     * Click 'Save Changes'

 e. If the original problem is solved but there are now other problems,
please close the original bug and open new ones for those issues.

Thank you!

For details on the changes in this version of -nvidia, please see:

Unfortunately this error still occurs. I've checked that the new 180-44 driver is being used (via Nvidia X Server Settings). When the open window is dragged to the edge of the screen at no point does the screen switch to the next desktop. If I go to the next desktop manually (via the taskbar) as the screen is rotating the window is seen on the next desktop, but as soon as the screen displays the full desktop (that is, stops rotating), the window disappears.

I've posted a new version of the -nvidia driver to our xorg-edgers PPA,
would you mind testing it either on Jaunty or Karmic and see if it
resolves this bug?

Get nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 - 185.18.14 here:

Hi Bryce. Unfortunately this still doesn't work in Kubuntu Jaunty kernel 2.6.28-13-generic #44-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jun 2 07:55:09 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux. According to Nvidia Server Settings I'm now using the ppa driver after a full update/upgrade/dist-upgrade and reboot. Seeing as I'm using Ubuntu which was upgraded, over time, from Alpha4 to date, I may try again with a fresh install of the latest version of Jaunty, but that will be in a few days time. I'll let you know of any changes/improvements.

I've just done a reinstall of the 2.6.28-11 kernel and upgraded to the -13 kernel (a new download of Kubuntu). With both the original 180.44 driver and the new 185.18.14 one I still get this problem. I don't know if this is related but all my open tasks show on the taskbar of every workspace.

This is because KDE's window manager does not (and will not) use viewports to do multiple desktops, but rather uses the good ol' X way of handling virtual desktops. (http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=147461)
