Bug Description:
1: Use root to login the system without gdm (console mode),e.
2: Start X from console using "startx -- -depth 16"
3: The X window cannot start up and the screen went black
4: Using normal user to start X is successful.

The bug also reproduced on Jaunty_Alpha2_X64 platform,when implementing "startx -- -depth 16", screen went
black.

Unfortunately there were no error messages shown in your Xorg.0.log. Can you please reproduce the issue, and then look in Xorg.0.log, Xorg.0.log.old, and your logs in /var/log/gdm/ for one with a relevant error message, and attach that?
Else, run X from the console via startx, and attach the console output from it after it's ended.
