Bug Description

I'm downloading some bigger files 500MB - 2GB from my server to client. This is in LAN network only. I tried using both Samba and NFS shares. In the mean time I'm surfing in Firefox and browsing the server NFS share. After few minutes (1-2+) the all Wifi activity gets stalled and practically not working or very, very low speed (1KB?). This situation persists until I reconnect to Wifi network in Network Manager plugin for Nautilus. Immediately after the connection is reconnected, the speed gets up to high value, about 2,5MB. It happens that I need to reconnect few times when downloading about 700MB file.

I ran "ubuntu-bug linux" command when the network got stalled.

I downloaded and tested Kubuntu 8.10 and it has the same issue. It doesn't only happen with big files. It seems to happen on a normal network operations, like downloading updates, files from Internet and so on.

I downloaded and tested Kubuntu 8.04 with all updates and I can not reproduce it. So it seems that something got broken in between 8.04 and 8.10.

It makes 8.10 version useless for me, since wireless networking gets down to about 150KB/s. When this happens all networking gets very slow. Can't play movies over LAN, updating Amarok library based on LAN takes more than all night etc.

Hope this will get fixed soon, since I'd like to switch to KDE 4.2, which is unavailable for hardy and my laptop extra keys (e.g. volume keys) don't work in 8.04 etc. :-(

Cheers,
Marek

If you could also test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine this issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

If the issue remains with the upstream kernel, please be sure to also run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux-image-#XXX-generic <bug #>

Thanks in advance.

Sorry, I didn't already have Kubuntu 8.10 at that time. I completely dropped Linux. I can't handle waiting for critical performance issues affecting you on a daily basis to get analyzed and fixed for months.
