Local mirrors are missing in synaptic apt mirrors list

Binary package hint: synaptic

http://ro.archive.ubuntu.com/ is one of the most complex and as far as I know most well maintained Romanian Ubuntu mirror (part of ftp.iasi.roedu.net). It also offers (as far as I know, since Ubuntu 7.10, cause then I started to use it as my primary apt repository) a full apt and cdimage repository for Ubuntu, but I can't be found in Synaptic apt mirrors list!

This should be fixed.

I have ro.archive.ubuntu.com in /etc/apt/sources.list and "Software Properties" displays "Server pentru Romania" as default package source.

I selected Romania as country and Romanian as default language when I installed the system.

I can't reproduce your bug. Please give details about how you installed your system.

@Adi ubuntu-l10n-ro should deal with localizations. This has nothing to do with that, assigning to ubuntu-ro.

I installed the 9.04 and because I selected Romanian as the language and Romania as the country, I got ro.archive.ubuntu.com in my apt sources.list and in synaptic.

Same is valid for 9.10 since alpha1.

I'm setting this as Invalid, as I cannot reproduce it. If you can, please reopen and post a series of steps in which ro.arch... should, but does not appear in sources.list.

The problem persists.
Check the attached screenshot. You will find no mirror with the name 'ro.archive.ubuntu.ro' or 'ftp.iasi.roedu.net/mirrors/ubuntulinux.org/'.

I'm using Jaunty with latest updates:
$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu

The problem in not in software-properties/synaptic, but in python-apt, which provides in /usr/share/python-apt/templates/Ubuntu.mirrors a list of mirrors, which for Romania only lists:
  #LOC:RO
  http://mirror.pub.ro/ubuntu/
  http://ftp.gts.lug.ro/ubuntu/
  http://ftp.astral.ro/mirrors/ubuntu.com/ubuntu/
  http://mirror.arlug.ro/pub/ubuntu/ubuntu/

There should be a line like bellow in the file too:
  http://ftp.iasi.roedu.net/mirrors/ubuntulinux.org/

  https://edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archivemirrors

There are several Romanian archives that are not listed in Ubuntu.mirrors but are listed on that site, e.g.
  https://edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+mirror/ftp.roedu.net-archive

I registered the archive we're talking about here https://edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+mirror/ftp.iasi.roedu.net-archive (currently pending review).

Great, one last issue.
To make it more "fancy" we can use "ro.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu"

Lucian, can you update it?

The mirror seems to be approved once the domain is already mapped to
it's location, though dunno why it is not yet in the mirror list.

Once the `python-apt` seems to take of the Ubuntu mirrors list in synaptic, I would like to suggest also to update the mirror for Moldova which details can be found here:
https://edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+mirror/mirrors.bsd.md-archive/

I can confirm that the mirror is pretty stable since it was claimed on launchpad.
Also, I would like to mention that there's no another local Ubuntu mirror in Moldova so this one can be really helpful for the end users.

The domains ccTLD.archive.ubuntu.com are floating domains.
If in the future someone puts another super-duper romanian mirror,
ro.archive. will change to that.
The registered archive should be static.

If we are sure that every country listed there is reachable at XX.archive.ubuntu.com, we could add those mirrors to the list. Otherwise, the remaining XX.archive.ubuntu.com mirrors should be added and they will be added to python-apt's mirror list automatically.

ftp.roedu.net is the same server as ftp.iasi.roedu.net (or at least they both resolve to the same IP).
