Bug Description

On an older version of Ubuntu when I do glxinfo | grep renderer I get Mesa GLX Indirect. On Intrepid, I see Software Rasterizer. I suspect this is cause of major performance regression as my glxgears performance goes from about 90 fps on older Ubuntu (7.10) to 35 fps in Intrepid.

I don't know if this bug is in mesa-utils, but would appreciate if this bug could be forwarded to the right owner. I did see something that could be related, but I am not sure if thats what it is. I tried it and rebooted the system but no difference in performance.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Yes, software rendering would cause a major performance regression.

Unfortunately, it's impossible to begin guessing why it would do that without seeing logs and other info about your hardware and software configuration.

Since this bug is pretty old and lacks the info needed, I'm going to close it. If it is still an issue, make sure to use the command 'ubuntu-bug xorg' to report it, which will attach the necessary logs to debug it.
