Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdebase

Jaunty Alpha + Current updates 20090304

Description:

Submenus in KDE applications pop up after a short delay which makes KDE applications feel very sluggish.

How to reproduce:

1. Open Dolphin
2. Click on "File" menu
3. Move mouse pointer to menu entry "Create new"
4. After a short delay submenu is shown

Expected behaviour:

(Sub)menus should pop up instantly without delay. This way KDE applications feel much faster.

Do you have desktop effects enabled? ... if so -> disable them
Also, what graphics chip/driver are you using?

I get no whatsoever, neither does any machine I have seen recently.

Seems that the Intel graphic drivers in Jaunty beta are the problem which slow down KDE very much. I have installed KDE 4.2.2 on Intrepid and there KDE is responsive.

Hi felix-rommel,

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn`, and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log (and maybe Xorg.0.log.old) file from after reproducing this issue. If you've made any customizations to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

[This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

This bug is in effect a feature request of shortening submenu show delay.

For those who would like to try a workaround, install Skulpture style.

I don't think X controls the menu delay for KDE menus...
