Bug Description

SunOS tashtego 5.11 NexentaOS_20081207 i86pc i386 i86pc Solaris

ii sun-java6-jdk 6-10-0nexenta2 Sun Java(TM) Development Kit (JDK) 6

thk@tashtego:~$ java -version
dl failure on line 685Error: failed /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.10/jre/lib/i386/client/libjvm.so, because ld.so.1: java: fatal: libCrun.so.1: open failed: No such file or directory

According to
http://wimpi.coalevo.net/2008/08/how-to-jdk6-on-nexenta-core-platform-2.html
(which explains how to install the jdk6 manually) libCrun.so.1 was once in a package named nevada-compat but that's not in the repository anymore (hardy-unstable).

Could someone revive nevada-compat?

Thanks.

I published nevada-compat into the hardy-unstable repository. Please let me know if this helps sun-java6-jdk

Yeah it helps, but nevada-compat is HUGE...
installed many xserver-xorg-* packages.
in the end it's quite too much dependencies for java

Note that you don't need *all* of the libraries from the nevada-compat package. Only the ones that come in the "devpro-sunwlibc-closedbins.tar.bz2" file. It's only 5.

It depends on what you do with java. If you ever open a GUI on a Unix-like platform (sans special cases like OSX) you are indeed using X libraries. You are correct that many deps are pulled in and that in some cases only a few are needed/used but packaging should worry about all cases.

That being said, does anyone feel like there is a better/more minimal solution to the problem?

If you have a Desktop (Gnome, KDE, etc.) installed then you already have the 'x-dependencies'
and the download is puny, it only takes a minute. I am happy with this solution, it worked fine.

shouldn't the dependencies of sun-java6-jre be updated ?
