Bug Description
After an upgrade from 8.04 to 8.10 (x86_64) I encounter
FREQUENT and RATHER LONG freezes (usually > 60s) of Firefox.
Firefox can virtually not be used for websites like Gmail.
Firefox will be dimmed down, all Firefox windows/tabs are blocked.
The problem may happen for any website.
The network setting has not been changed.
All network access is as good as before.
Other users in the same network (mostly use some kind of Windows or Mac) do not experience this problem.
Other network application run smoothly without any glitches.
I am desperate as FF can not be used as before.
Linux kernels installed:
2.6.27-11-generic
2.6.24-23-generic
Problem happens on both Kernels.
Firefox version (as installed/changed by Ubuntu):
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.0.5) Gecko/2008121623 Ubuntu/8.10 (intrepid) Firefox/3.0.5

Problem was caused by 32 bit Flash plugin.
Plugin changes/updates were apparently not considered by the update, which caused this problem.
PLEASE,
updating operating systems, can cause all kinds of problems. It would be useful to have a simple method to give an immediate feedback on issues. To give a feedback by a bugsystem like this, is for most users to complicated. A lot of bugs and issues will therefore never reach the pros like you.
I would really like to see such a website, which offers a simple feedback mechanism, to tell you, that there is a problem of some kind, which was most likely caused by the update. Otherwise ubuntu can become very frustrating ...
