Mousekeys switched off when unplugging keyboard

Bug Description
I have RSI,so I use mousekeys which allows me to "click the mouse" by pressing 5 in the numberpad on the keyboard.
Mousekeys gets switched off if I unplug the keyboard (something I don't do very often) and more importantly when I switch over to another computer using a KVM switch. When I come back to Ubuntu 8.10 mousekeys is switched off. So I have to run gnome-keyboard-
