FYI, I think i'll wait a week or so. MapServer 5.2.2 is supposed to be
released soon. Once it's released, i'll modify the debian package for
DebianGIS and make the ubuntuGIS one.

Regards,
Alan

Sorry, i thought that this bug was a "ubuntuGIS" bug. My packages will
be in the "ubuntuGIS" PPA, not in ubuntu repository. The ubuntu
repository are always synchronized with Debian unstable, and mapserver
5.2.1 is still in debian experimental.

As of this post, the current version of MapServer is 5.4.

My questions relate to the comment of a members previous post

" MapServer 5.2.2 is supposed to be released soon. Once it's released, i'll modify the debian package for
DebianGIS and make the ubuntuGIS one."

(1) I would like to know where to obtain the most recent, and most complete MapServer packages for Ubuntu 9.04 Server on AMD64 ? I would like to find a sources (repositories) which offer packages including all MapServer dependencies (except Apache, PHP, Curl, and Pear) which are already installed on my server.

(2) I am also seeking step-by-step installation and testing instructions for MapServer and its dependent libraries and resources.

I am hoping to find packages which can use my fully-functioning Apache2 installation, rather than a package such as FGS, which includes its own installations of Apache, PHP, supporting libraries, etc, and which I (and some others) have not been able to install and get working ... in particular, starting FGS Apache fails with errors.

The only bug I have to report is that "it bugs me that MapServer installation packages and installation information are so scarce for Linux".

Sincerely,

Hi Kris,

(1) There are a few packages in the UbuntuGIS PPA: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntugis/+archive/ubuntugis-unstable (including MapServer 5.4.0 for Jaunty)

(2) In fact, you can test any MapServer installation with any mapserver application (mapfile with data). A tutorial could surely be found on www.mapserver.org

If you test the current UbuntuGIS packages, thanks to let me know your feedback or any bug.

Alan
