Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

After the latest kernel upgrade and reboot, the display on my Toshiba Libretto U105 subnotebook is slightly incorrect. I had not rebooted after the previous xserver-xorg-video-intel upgrade so I am tempted to blame that rather than the recent kernel or libc6 upgrades, but I don't really have a good clue of where to look.

The top Gnome menu bar is slightly pushed down -- approximately 8 pixels -- by what looks like the missing parts of the bottom menu bar, slightly distorted. I will attach some images to show this. For example, where there are buttons in the window chooser in the bottom menu bar, there are stripes of alternating menu-bar grey and dark (black? dark grey?) at the top of the screen, above the Applications - Places - System menus.

This is a fairly small display (7 or 8 inches?) running at 1280x768 on a pretty basic Intrepid install (not upgraded from any earlier release). To the extent that I grok xorg.log, it looks like I am running the "intel" driver. There's a bunch of underrun error messages in xorg.log but I don't know if they were there before these problems began.

I tried to run "ubuntu-bug -p xserver-xorg-video-intel" but it failed with "Cannot open display ":0 -"", "Exiting".

(Edit: simple typo fix, remove some redundant info)

As the ultimate confirmation, downgrading to 2:2.4.1-1ubuntu10.1 (which I had lying around still) works around the problem for now.

[This is an automatic notification.]

A new major version of the -intel driver is now available in Karmic.

This version includes a major reworking of the acceleration
architecture, which resolves a huge number of issues. We do not know
whether it resolves the issue you reported.

Would you mind testing Karmic Alpha-2 and seeing if it is still a
problem? CD ISO images are available here:

  http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/releases/karmic/

If the issue can still be reproduced on karmic, please report here with
your findings, and attach a fresh Xorg.0.log from your test, and we will
be able to forward the bug upstream.

Otherwise, if the bug no longer exists in Karmic, let us know that as
well.

In the off chance you encounter different bugs while attempting to test
Karmic, please report those as new bug reports.

We're closing this bug since it is has been some time with no response from the original reporter. However, if the issue still exists please feel free to reopen with the requested information. Also, if you could, please test against the latest development version of Ubuntu, since this confirms the bug is one we may be able to pass upstream for help.

For the record, this already seems to be fixed in the version shipping with Jaunty.
