Bug Description

Running Kubuntu 8.10 on i386 platform (Toshiba Satellite P105-S6147). Upgraded from KDE 4.1.4 to KDE 4.2.00. Upon rebooting, and after logging in through KDM, I get a pop-up error notification:

Error - Plasma Workspace
The process for the trash protocol died unexpectedly.

Only option is to acknowledge the error (OK) and the notification goes away. The trashcan icon is on my panel. About Trashcan shows Version 1.0 Using KDE 4.2.00 (KDE 4.2.0)

I can delete items and they go into the trashcan. I can open the trashcan - left-click (opens as it should with Dolphin). I can empty the trashcan - right-click > Empty Trashcan - without any issues.

I'd like to know whats causing the error message and what to do to correct/fix it.

A fix for this problem should be released with KDE 4.2.1 (see http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?format=multiple&id=177866). Please upgrade to 4.2.1 and reopen this, if you still have issues.
