Bug Description

I bought an internal Multi-Card reader that plugs into the motherboard USB headers. On the front panel, it includes a USB port, SM/xD slot, SD/MMC/RS-MMC slot, CF/Microdrive slot, and a MemoryStick slot.

*Unfortunately, the SD slot doesn't respond when I plug either a 16GB class 6, 8 GB class 4, or 1GB class 2 SD card into it.

The USB port works when I plug a thumbdrive into it. The SM/xD slot works when I plug a 1GB xD card into it.
I have not tested the CF and Memorystick slots.

Hi Robert,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/lucid.

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 323531

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

When the above apport-collect was run, I did not have the Sony Card Reader device plugged in. When it is plugged in (to the headers on the motherboard), my USB system wide freezes for about 2-3 minutes after boot. Then the USB mouse and keyboard start to work, but if I plug in any other USB device (printer, flash drive, etc) the machine freezes in totality. This is indeed a problem on 9.10. I will plug it back in a run the apport-collect again.

Cheers

Some other notes:
The device operates just fine in winXP and win7. The standard usb port on the front of the card reader works just fine. Other ports do not. When the machine is booting with the card reader plugged in, as soon as grub starts loading, the lights on the mouse and keyboard go out (indicative of the drivers not being loaded). After you get to the desktop and wait about 3 minutes, the lights come on and the keyboard and mouse are functional, but the applets on the top right menubar (network, volume, login, email etc) don't work for about another minute.

Hopefully that is not too much info.

Cheers

This issue seems to disappear in 10.04 (beta 2 daily build downloaded on Apr. 24). So far so good.
