Bug Description

This is in 8.10 intrepid AMD64 (server kernel).

I've found numerous similar reports around the web; I have no idea which package is at fault.

# dvd+rw-mediainfo /dev/scd0
INQUIRY: [LITE-ON ][DVDRW SHM-165H6S][HS06]
GET [CURRENT] CONFIGURATION:
:-( no media mounted, exiting...

gnomebaker says:

:-( /dev/scd0: media is not recognized as recordable DVD: 0

brasero won't give me the option to do anything but make an .iso file

nautilus just keeps asking for blank media even though I've inserted it.

Hi Dave

Can you please attach the following information. Please be sure to attach each file as a separate attachment.

* cat /proc/version_signature > version.log
* dmesg > dmesg.log
* sudo lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.log

Could you also attach the output of this:
 * sudo lshw > lshw.log

That should reveal the capabilities of your drive.

I've since reinstalled intrepid on that machine, as a minimal server install (no X, for example). I installed dvd+rw-tools so I could run this test again, and I can't reproduce the problem now. Given the number of similar complaints around the web, I have no doubt that it's a real issue, but I'm also sure it must be an interaction with some other software I don't have installed anymore. If it ever comes back, I'll reopen this one.
