Bug Description

Ubuntu 8.10
kernel: 2.6.27-11-generic (same result with 2.6.27-9-generic)
gnome: 2.24.1
gdm: 2.20.8
qingy: 0.9.7

Expected sound controls to work when logging into gnome session via qingy. However, when logging into a gnome session from qingy sound support fails to initialize. Installed qingy from repos.
Edited /etc/event.d/tty1:
1. Commented '# exec /sbin/getty 38400 tty1'.
2. Added 'exec /usr/sbin/qingy tty1'.
Used bum to disable gdm.

If I reverse these steps and restore gdm as desktop manager sound initializes as expected. No anomalous output from dmesg to indicate a failure. No anomalous output from /var/log/syslog or /var/log/message.

Further investigation reveals that adding my user to the audio group resolves this problem.

Perhaps qingy is not starting gnome-session, gnome-settings-daemon, or some other gnome sound thing properly?

Just an idea.
