Bug Description

Binary package hint: jedit

Ubuntu version: 8.10
JEdit package version: 4.3-pre13 (synaptic version) [universe repo]

Installed JEdit from synaptic, using plugin manager to choose and install plugins don't work as user.
when you try to use a plugin you get an ugly trace like:

java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: gnu/regexp/REException
 at buffertabs.BufferTabs.propertiesChanged(Unknown Source)
 at buffertabs.BufferTabs.start(Unknown Source)
 at buffertabs.BufferTabsPlugin.addBufferTabsToEditPane(Unknown Source)
 at buffertabs.BufferTabsPlugin.toggleBufferTabsForEditPane(Unknown Source)

trying to install and use plugins from sudo it does work, so I guess it's a permission problem.

This looks like a problem specific to the BufferTabs plugin (which does not get shipped by Ubuntu).
Please try updating the plugin using the Plugin Manager and report back, if that helps.
If not: are you getting other backtraces, where BufferTabsPlugin is not mentioned?

(It works using sudo probably only, since you don't have the BufferTabsPlugin installed in that profile)

Changed in jedit:
importance: Undecided → Medium
status: New → Incomplete

There is no update for the plugin (version 0.8.3), but I found out
that you also need GnuRegexp plugin to make it work.

ehm.. I've try with sudo because I have the plugin installed and it
works (the plugin)
in this profile BufferTabs installed automagically the dependent
plugin GnuRegexp but not as user.

most likely ubuntu is not responsible at all, feel free to close the bug.

but if you want to see another plugin that crashes (both user and sudo
profiles) it's TextAutocompleter.

cheers

Should have been fixed upstream (according to the linked SF.net bug).
Closing as Invalid for Ubuntu.

In the SF I read:

This Tracker item was closed automatically by the system. It was
previously set to a Pending status, and the original submitter
did not respond within 14 days (the time period specified by
the administrator of this Tracker).

To me it looks like the bug has been automatically closed and marked as fixed, no idea if this bug has really been fixed.

The SF.net bug asked to try the new plugin, which is supposed to fix the bug (at least it got addressed).
In this case I think "no answer means OK".

Feel free to re-open this bug if it should still be a problem.

Thanks.

please try the attached plugin, it is a preview of the BufferTabs that
