Bug Description

This is for the Asus FA-X2:

Details of alsa-info:
http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=cff9206e41188613612b4c059260f3cb6a6300c5

This bug can be reproduced by:
Going into the BIOS and disabling the utterly annoying POST sound under the Asus FA-X2.

At first, sound seems completely disabled, but when volumes are turned to their highest, a very minimal noise is heard when listening to music or whatever it may be.

By enabling the POST sound, you will have sound again once you reboot.

Any suggestions in how to further diagnose this issue?

I'm not sure if this will be of any use but, you could try looking at the debugging sound problems page on the wiki https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingSoundProblems .

The debug guide said audio problems which were things like, "no sound" or "sound very quiet" should be filed against the Linux Package.

Hi justinvh,

Please be sure to confirm this issue exists with the latest development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/lucid. If the issue remains, please run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p alsa-base 322897

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
