AMD64 name is confusing

Bug Description

Currently the installation CD for 64-bit Ubuntu is titled "ubuntu-8.10-desktop-amd64.iso". This title is confusing as it implies that it is only for users with AMD brand processors, when in reality it's for any processor with an X86-64 architecture. To avoid confusion, please refer to this version as "X86-64" instead of "amd64".

This is no different than AMD users for years have had to use the i386, i586, etc. versions of packages.

AMD was first with the 64 platform, hence the name is called amd64. At the time it was not know that Intels 64 bit platform would be binary compatible.

Why not bring this up on brainstorm, and suggest that the name of the iso is renamed to something like ubuntu-8.10-desktop-64bit.iso

A bug report has been written. http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/17720/

However, I still argue that "amd" should have never been in the title in the first place, and therefore this is a bug.
