Bug Description

Binary package hint: noip2

When noip2 is installed from APT on Intrepid 8.10 server, it does not start automatically at boot. There is no entry for it's startup script under /etc/rc2.d/. If you try to add this entry with 'update-rc.d noip2 start 20 2 .', update-rc.d claims the link already exists. Links do already exist in runlevels 3 and 4, but not the default 2. When the link is added manually, noip2 starts up at boot as expected.

noip2 makes an init.d script by default but it has an error. It is'nt set to start at bootup in runlevel 2 (the default runlevel in Ubuntu)

A very good tool to change which services start and which dont in different runlevels is sysv-rc-conf.

sudo apt-get install sysv-rc-conf
sudo sysv-rc-conf

You will notice that in noip2's row under runlevel 2 there is no x. Use the spacebar to toggle.

Thanks, the tool is very useful, but if in runlevel 2 is the X, making a htop, I see that running as root instead of nobody, I have applied to run as nobody, but still running well ..
