Bug Description

Binary package hint: qtparted

Trying to NTFS partition an external USB 2.0 Freecom HDD with the qtparted v0.4.5-cvs that ships with Ubuntu 8.10 64-Bit, qtparted crashed with this not very informative error message:

----
Error: Dateisystem wurde nicht sauber ausgehangen (unmounted)! Sie sollten e2fsck ausführen. Änderungen an einem unsauberen Dateisystem führen zu weiteren nicht behebbaren Fehlern.
Segmentation fault
----

Note that gparted and kvpm too have issues NTFS formatting HDDs (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gparted/+bug/193398, https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kvpm/+bug/321829), so currently there is not a single GUI tool out in Ubuntu which would enable one to NTFS format HDDs, which makes work in a professional environment where NTFS is the standard file system and ext2/ext3 cannot be read impossible (at least for me - maybe real nerds know some workaround).

And, please, don't tell me that FAT32 is a way out (file size restrictions!).
