Bug Description

Jaunty Jackalope Kubuntu, daily build from around January 23, 2009.

Jaunty Kubuntu was installed using the alternate installer, the /home partition was kept from the previous installations. The first user was created during the setup. This first user could login, but could not perform any adminstrative tasks because he was not in the sudoers list. Manual correction ("visudo") resolved the problem.

Updated a Jaunty install to a new kernel image (usage?), viz 2.6.28-8-generic just this morning at 04:50 UTC 13 March 2009. Has removed my normal user from sudoers, so this seems to affect more than the first install. I'm sure if I could remember my root password, I could manually correct this. I'd append some logs, namely exactly which packages were updated, but I can't read them currently. Will try to do so once I get the situation resolved.

same problem with ubuntu 9.04 beta alternate cd for amd64, with a fresh install under a ext4 file system.
the user was not in the sudoers list.
have to go to recovery mode and add the user name to the admin group, then edit the sudoer list to add the admin group.

Can the original reporter / others confirm this still happens with release ISOs ?

Please attach /var/log/installer/syslog.

Please can separate reporters file separate bugs rather than adding comments to this one; several of you may in fact have distinct problems with the same symptoms!

Seems like this happens only when selecting Encrypted home directory. See Bug #321345.

I just tested a new install and could not reproduce the problem when *not* using the encrypted home directory option at install time.
