I'm seeing this as well.

I'm running a fresh install of Flight 4 followed by an apt-get update / upgrade

Does this still happen?

Do you get anything like this when running adept from a konsole?

Still happens here in Kubuntu Dapper Flight 5 up-to-date.

$ adept

and

$ sudo adept
$ kdesu adept
Don't make any error.

Launching it from [Alt]-[F2] (or launch it form K-Menu) makes the command switch to

adept '-icon' 'adept' '-miniicon' 'adept' -caption '"Adept"

in a kdesu prompt. This gives error.

@Didier

are you seeing the extended version exactly like that with the mismatched quotes or is that a typo?

I have adept '-icon' 'adept' '-miniicon' 'adept' -caption "Adept" which dosen't give me any errors

I believe that was a typo. I don't have that extra quote, my command is exactly the same as yours, and I get the error.

That was typo... Still getting errors.

Clarifying slightly, ps -ef shows this command, without quote marks:

adept -icon adept -miniicon adept -caption Adept

Running this command as root after entering "sudo bash" from the normal account works fine; it's only when running from the KDE menu that the popup appears.

Incidentally, I believe it's a minor bug that the popup title says "Sorry - Adept" while the body of the popup says "Could not find mime type application/octet-stream". I think the body should say "Sorry - Adept could not find..." while the title should just say "Adept", or something.

I still have this problem on a fully up to date Kubuntu Dapper system, originally installed with Flight 5.

I forgot to add that no error shows if I launch adept from a terminal, so my problem appears to be the same as yours.

I have the problem too (installed with Flight 6). It appears it doesn't like the -icon and -miniicon arguments it is given by default.

1) 'sudo adept' from terminal is error-free.
2) 'sudo adept '-icon' 'adept' '-miniicon' 'adept' -caption "Adept"' from terminal is also error-free (the command used in K Menu)
3) I created a new menu item with command 'adept' and ticked 'run as different user' - also error-free
4) I then used the original menuitem command (adept %i %m -caption "%c") in the new menu item, and this produced the error.
5) I removed %i and %m - now it's error-free

Given that it still displays an icon whether or not you give it -icon and -miniicon, is there any point in having them at all?

The problem seems to be the launcher. It has the "Run as different user" in the "Advanced Options". Simply untick it and it will be error free. It doesn't prompt for password if you launch it this way, and it gives a message say it will run in read only mode.

In the launcher "Command" field, simply add kdesu at the beginning and it will run fine.

Same for me in kubuntu flight 6 fully patched.
The problem occurs just clicking in the default adept icon in k->system

I think something should be fixed

I can confirm this too. As said before: it's not only when upgrading from breezy, but also with a fresh install from Kubuntu 6.06 (Dapper Drake) Flight CD 6.
I noticed the following:
 - The problem does not occur when starting adept from the command line: 'sudo adept'
 - The problem still occurs after deleting .kde folder from user's and root's homedir.
- When starting adept from the command line (sudo apept -in a terminal) the following files and directories are created:
       [Dir] /root/.qt
       [Dir] /root/share
       [Dir] /root/share/config
       [File] /root/share/config/adeptrc
- When starting adept from the menu -with kdesu(d)- the following files and directories are created:
       [Dir] /root/.qt
       [Dir] /root/.kde
       [Dir] /root/.kde/share
       [Dir] /root/.kde/share/config
       [File] /root/.kde/share/config/adeptrc
       [Dir] /root/.kde/cache-neo
       [Dir] /root/share
       [Dir] /root/share/config
       [Dir] /root/share/mimelnk
       [Dir] /root/share/services
       [Dir] /root/share/applnk
To me it seems that Adept is not configured correctly during the build. But hey, I'm not an expert. If anyone needs more information don' t hestitate to contact me.
