In Karmic, the dv-9000 resumes every time. Usually everything works, even though once in a blue moon I have no networking (maybe once every couple of weeks). A reboot fixes that. This goes for 2 out of 3 of our computers with Nvidia chipset.

Just installed 10.04 on my HP DV9000 (dv9817cl) and experienced the same suspend problem. The only way to recover the system was to force shutdown with the power button.

The system recovered normally, except that wireless had stopped working, and Network Manager was not on the panel any more. I had to add a notification area back to the panel to get Network Manager back so I could re-enable the network and connect to the wireless router.

Am disabling suspend mode until I see an answer posted. Hopefully hibernate will work instead.

Update:

The problem not only occurs when suspending the machine by closing the notebook, it also occurs when set to hibernate.

Hard shutdown required with power button. Reboots with no networking enabled.

This machine is running the newest Nvidia driver recommended by Ubuntu for 3d effects, Version 173.

Ken, forget about 173.. That's the driver with which my suspend issues started. Run 195. With it, suspend works like a charm on my dv9894ca. It also worked with the NVidia driver that came with Karmic, but it did not work with Jaunty.

I've got the same problem on HP DV6-2113sa with Lucid 64-bit. My video card is Mobility Radeon HD 4500 Series with Catalyst 10.5 driver.

When you try to resume, does pressing the caps lock key toggle the led? Can you press CTRL-SHIFT-ALT-F1 then CTRL-ALT-DEL and have the machine reboot? If so then this may be a duplicate of bug #594885. Please test the latest daily kernel build from the kernel ppa, or wait for Maverick Alpha 2 and report if the issue has been resolved.

No, the cap locks does not toggle the LED and I cannot reboot by pressing those key combinations. I will try the most recent kernel build from the ppa and report.
