i can ping my network printer, but hp-makeuri fails to find it

Hello,

I run Ubuntu 8.04 and have just bought a HP Photosmart C7280 All in One with wireless. It is currently set up as a standalone wireless printer and not networked through any router.

I am attempting to install this printer. My Ubuntu PC is connected to a wireless router/modem which works fine. I can not get the drivers ton install.

I am trying to intall hplip. I have dowloaded the self extracting version, when I double click it comes up with the error message :

Could not open the file /home/jon/Desktop/hplip-2.8.5.run. gedit has not been able to detect the character coding.
Please check that you are not trying to open a binary file.
Select a character coding from the menu and try again.

When I run it through terminal I get:

sh: Can't open hplip-2.8.5.run

Please help.
