Bug Description

Installing the GNU gnash Firefox plugin ("apt-get install mozilla-plugin-gnash") and opening the page http://www.microsoft.com/surface/index.html in Firefox brings a fully updated Ubuntu 8.10 to its knees to the point that I needed a hard reboot to recover. This is reproducible, and setting /proc/sys/vm/overcommit_memory to 2 does not help. Obviously it is a bug in gnash that it overloads the system like this, but it seems to me to be a much worse bug in Ubuntu that it can't cope with this. I don't know if it is possible to set up a modern Linux-based system to survive this though.
