network manage doesn't offer wireless

Wireless is not being recognized by network-manager.
wlan0 is up, though:

The Acer Aspire One netbook is affected.

Workaround is to use wicd instead of NM for the present.

I can also confirm that it must be due to NM, since I was successfully using ubuntu jaunty's 2.6.28 kernel in intrepid, and awireless ceased to work after switching to jaunty altogether. So it cannot be the kernel.
