Bug Description

During the graphical splash screen, in which ubuntu starts itself up, the system gets only to the "starting hotplug subsystem" step, hangs for a while in the graphical display, then jumps to a command line version of what has been starting up. I have never been able to get any further than this point in the startup, even when i remove everything from my computer, except the essential components. Those are:

Video Card: nVidia GeForce 6600
HDD: SATA seagate 250GB
Optical Drive: IDE DVD-ROM
Motherboard: ASUS, P4 compatable, onboard network, and sound

We're not using hotplug in dapper at all ... please try a dapper Live CD (e.g. Flight 4) and see whether that hangs as well
