Bug Description
Binary package hint: linux-image-
I have two sound cards, a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS and an integrated Nvidia HDA card. I am running KDE4-based 64bit Intrepid originally on linux-image-
In KDE4's System Settings -> Multimedia -> Device Preferance area, all of the options are set to favour the pulseaudio input other than any of the direct ones. Except for the 'Notifications' option which outputs direct to the HDA nvidia device. Pulseaudio detects both cards and has the Audigy set as its default. Amarok/Firefox simply play though pulseaudio, so all sound appart from KDE4's notifications play though pulse to the audigy device.
Now, this set-up works perfectly under kernel 2.6.27-9-generic. but after upgrading to kernel '2.6.27-11-generic' the sound blaster stoped functioning. Both KDE4's System Settings dialog and pulseaudio's dialog still see the device and try to output too it with no errors given. In the pulse audio system tray program it still shows the volume outputs to the audagy as receveing sound, although non is played. Not even running 'cat /dev/urandom > /dev/dsp' does anything. Nor does shutting down pulseaudio. The other, integrated card works exacly as before.
But after restarting and switching back to 2.6.27-9-generic it works exactly as before, so I'm sure it's only the kernel version that's causing the problem and not anything muted or some piece of configuration.
Attached is the dmesg log from the boot with that kernel image.
Hi neoncode,
This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http:// cdimage. ubuntu. com/releases/ lucid.
If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications- >Accessories- >Terminal) . It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.
apport-collect -p linux 319440
Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https:/ /wiki.ubuntu. com/KernelMainl ineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs- upstream- testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs- upstream- testing' text. Please let us know your results.
Thanks in advance.
