I do notice though that:

I do have it in Daemon mode.

This is the second bug report like this, mind you, yours was in english. How did you produce this, was this a typical upgrade through apt?
I am marking this bug as incomplete until we can find out what is leading to the failed upgrade. Having the stop/start fail really shouldn't have such a drastic effect as this, it typically will just display a lot of error messages and upgrade.
