it would be nice if Gwibber would support the entire list of command available on OMB spec.

But for now I would be glad to see it add support of DM (direct message or private message).
the format is:
d NICK MSG

no '@' before the nick.

That way, Identica, other Laconica installs, and maybe even Twitter could use this feature via Gwibber.

technically I believe you can already send these, but there is a bug/feature where it is sent to all protocols, you need to manually choose the protocol you wish to DM on before sending

what I think you are really asking for is full support for direct messages, i.e., they should appear in the Replies timeline alongside other messages and clicking reply should perform a direct message reply (rather than broadcast it)

I think instead of changing function of reply button, another DM button should be added beside it.

And yes, having complete DM support would be really nice.

We now have support for receiving DMs. They are displayed on the Replies tab with bright red highlighting.

@segphault: presumably we can change the reply button for direct messages to add 'd' before the @username to cause it to be sent as a DM ? seems fairly trivial

Yes, that's a good idea. It would also be good to add an additional icon for it next to reply on regular messages.

DM work with '@' before nick on identica/laconica.
Example: "d dominic this is a DM"
not : "d @dominic this isnt a DM"

Ok... actually BOTH could be, IF usernames would accept '@' which AFAIK the spec doesnt allow.

have put in the original request, i.e., clicking reply on a DM will now set the input box to 'd username ' instead of '@username ' causing the user to reply via DM by default (but still allowing them to delete the input box and reply in the normal way if they prefer.

if people think we also need a seperate 'reply by DM' icon on every normal message then it should be raised as a new [wishlist] requirement please.
