Hmmm goes nuts in KDE 4.2 rc1 in Intrepid too - I have been killing it as I only want a working Strigi but I can't get that to work either booo - I was told it worked in trunk so it may just be a faulty package.

I have the same problem, on Intrepid with the final KDE 4.2 packages.

I have disabled nepomuk in System Settings, under the advanced tab and then desktop search. This seems to "solve" the problem.

I have the same problem, running Kubuntu 8.10 upgraded to KDE 4.2 with the packages from the intrepid-backports repository (upgraded yesterday). My system is AMD 64x2 processor based and I run the 64 bit version of the OS.

I have kept nepomukservices running for about 200 minutes now and CPU activity on the process never goes under 90% (peaked at 100%) - it's got to be hard work....what is it supposed to do... tag files?

Still being able to use the computer despite this runaway process is a blessing of dual core processors :-)

I've had the same problem since nepomuk was first introduced in the experimental PPA packages (gutsy? hardy? I don't know.) It's NEVER worked. I was hoping with Jaunty - but no. KDE 4.2.3... but no. The "nepomuksearch" protocol in Dolphin returns empty folders, and nepomukservices takes up 100% of one of my CPU's. I've given it more than enough time (days) to index, in case you're wondering.

If nepomuk really DOES work in KDE trunk, does it work in Kubuntu at all? Is there something I can do to fix it on my computer? I've been longing for Strigi search for about 2 years now, lol.

Strigi wasn't working too well before Kubuntu 10.04. (Or KDE 4.4 on Kubuntu 9.10)
It's most likely fixed now, though.

I have a Gnome installation, but use kmail. This has resulted in nepomuk and its associated software being installed, and it is especially haard to get rid of. I have de-installed it with Synaptic, but it is still running, and can't be killed. I will try a reboot next.

This is back in Kubuntu 11.04. First I though it was the ati drivers but now when I connect my external drive. Nepomuservices and kded4 both go to 50% cpu cycles making impossible to work with my system anymore. Even when save removing my external drive. It jus keeps eating cycles.

yes, I'm just seeing nepomukservices hitting one of my cpus at 100% and kded4 hitting another at 100%
