Bug Description

Binary package hint: debian-installer

Trying to setup ubuntu / ubuntustudio using the alternate installer CD from the daily builds (1.13.2009). The installer detects that there are SATA RAID controllers and asks if I want to activate them. I select yes, the installation comes to a Redscreen of Fail and I hit a brick wall in my installation. I can drop back to the menu to select which step I want to attempt, but no further. This worked in Ibex fine. Controller is intel ICH9R in either RAID or AHCI mode set in the BIOS on an ABiT IX38-QuadGT.

Oh, by the way, this is the amd64 nightlies; i386 has the same outcome.

If there's any way I can get some sort of kernel or messages log from the still running installer after it crashes and burns on activating the RAID controller, let me know how.

As an addendum; dmraid -ay in the daily livecds detects the isw raid array, but cannot activate it for some reason, even after I deleted the array in the ICH9R ROM setup utility and re-created it.

But after all this, Ibex works fine on the alternate install.

Discovered through DMRAID that the array cannot be activated--no specific reason given; hence this is a DMRAID issue. Most likely due to new kernel 2.6.28

Booted from latest nightly LiveCD and found that DMRAID is the culprit. 'dmraid -ay' tells me that it sees the Intel RAID0 array, but it didn't activate it.

Going to triage. Seems that it is being overlooked by devs and this is pretty critical.

ubiquity doesn't support dmraid yet (and there's a separate bug for that), so the ubiquity task on this bug makes no sense. I'll close the debian-installer task too since the dmraid task is more specific.
