There was a kdm bug that was fixed quickly after the big update. I would recommend that you update again and see if its fixed.

I don't think he is talking about kdm bug.

I'm on amd64. kde4 very broken since first upload of 4.1.96. Now, after kdebase-runtime
and kdeworkspace-* packages also got updated, it's bit better (ALT+F2 now gives that start thingy).

But. All the screen is silver in color, notifications appear in the left top corner of screen, taskbar (kicker
or what's it's called these days) is completely missing. That alt+f2 window doesn't have icons on buttons,
instead they are colored dark-grey.

Not pretty and not usable at all.

Desktop effect are gone, and I find this in the dmesg:

plasma[23842]: segfault at 41 ip 00007f0d9c120696 sp 00007fffa490ce70 error 4 in libplasma.so.3.0.0[7f0d9c07a000+1e9000]

I also attached picture of how that alt+f2 window looks right now.

Update. after latest kdebase-runtime (4:4.1.96-0ubuntu2) icons in alt+f2 window appeared.
And it's now possible to enable desktop effects.

But. with desktop effects enabled, the desktop is just black (background image missing). Taskbar is still completely missing. Clicking with right mouse button on the desktop doesn't open any popup menu.

With desktop effects disabled, background image image gets replaced by big full-screen silver box.

This is last update.

Latest kdebase-workspace-.* (-0ubuntu3 version) cured the problems.
Now desktop is fully functional again.

Thank you.
