Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz

Compiz works great. I didn't have to do any hacking or configuration to get it to work.

However, when the system is under high load (99% cpu) and I switch workspaces (ctrl+alt+bkspc), compiz almost always crashes. Iit starts the fallback wm (metacity). Alt+F2+compiz--replace puts me back in buisness, but it's a very disrupting problem...

Using ATI Radeon 9100, on an older P4 laptop, Ubuntu 8.10

01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RS300M AGP [Radeon Mobility 9100IGP]

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these instuctions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

Changed in compiz:

I have this problem too. Nothing in /var/crash, just this in dmesg:
 [316398.163507] compiz.real[16854]: segfault at 0 ip (null) sp bfdbb7cc error 4 in libxml2.so.2.7.5[110000+122000]

Hope you mean ctrl+alt+arrow keys.

Otherwise I can reproduce it by starting a bunch of torrents and switching back and forth between workspaces until it crashes.

I tried installing all related -dbg packages but it didn't produce anything that looked useful, basicaly just removing "no debugging symbols found" from the above gdb trace.

Any suggestions on what else I can do to debug this?
