CD-ROM Drive Errors

Bug Description

I have an Acer Extensa 4630z that originally came with Windows Vista. I'd never had any problems with the drive using Vista so I'm ruling out a hardware issue at this point.

The CD/DVD drive will not mount all the CDs. Burnable CDs will not function properly, only one CD I burned in Vista does not fail to function. All other burned CDs/DVDs will not mount.

It is not a problem with the hardware I'm sure, as I can load a burned copy of an OS from the boot screen. I was able to get one CD to run once, but before that the CD-ROM loaded and reloaded and would not mount the CD.

I have a SECOND laptop with 8.10 on it as well. All the CDs will load in this older laptop. This is what it convinces me that its not my CDs that are the error.

I also cannot BURN CDs/DVDs either. Here is the log output from Brasero when I tried to test burn a CD to see if the drive would burn. http://paste.ubuntu.com/104063/

The burn works all the way to the end, but then the CD will not mount.

I am hoping that this is a driver issue that will be fixed with future updates. The CD-ROM drive is a DVD Super-Multi DL read and writer. Could it be an incompatibility with a different part of the laptop which is causing this?

As a reminder, I can play all these burned CDs in a different laptop running 8.10, I could run them on the problem laptop when it was running Vista, and I can burn factory burned CDs such as music CDs and movies.

I hope this gives an accurate description of my problem, and I hope this can help to get the problem fixed. :)

Can you attach the output of

sudo lshw

and

dmesg

after an attempt at burning a disc.

That should give some more information about the exact type of drive and what's going wrong.
