Bug Description

It seems as though a dynamic search && link function within Launchpad bug reports and specifically IRC and mailing list logs (which directly discuss said bug reports for troubleshooting and resolution processes) could be made.

In a nutshell, my idea is to have a back end component of the bug reporting tool search these logs for instances of, say, the bug URL (which bots often use already to parse the description and paste it into the IRC channel) and link it to the bug report in a side-pane info box of some sort that conforms with the "Subscribers" and other information boxes in a bug report.

It is already often necessary for people to communicate the bug URL when referencing it on IRC and mailing lists, so others may browse to it to get information on it, and therefore be able to help better resolve the bug. There are other creative possibilities to parse logfiles for information regarding the bug, so it can evolve to pick lots of useful information in, ultimately, getting the bug resolved in the quickest, easiest fashion for the community.

I know, huge project most likely. I just thought I'd shoot the idea out there for anyone that might want to consider it. It would probably be well worth the effort when it's being used by everyone here on LP. =)

Comments welcome.

Cheers,
Jordan/Lns
