gourmet and pysqlite 2.5 are incompatible.

This is an issue still in Jaunty. The splash screen shows, but gourmet crashes before even getting to the main screen.

There are problems with Gourmet and python2.6 (which are mostly fixed in the development branch, but not yet packaged or released). Are you sure that's not what you're seeing?
