Bug Description
When the "install ubuntu" option of the server edition installer hits a certain problem, it shows a dialog box with an "Ok" button and quits without any other indication of the problem. It should probably show some indication of what problem was encountered.
I discovered this bug because ACPI complained about the cheesy Promise RAID controller being used in the system I was attempting to install on. Under the 8.04 installer, the system attempts to boot linux and then shows the ACPI error message. Under the 8.10 installer, the dialog box pictured in the attached photo is shown. If the "Ok" button is selected, the dialog closes and nothing more happens.
In my case in particular, moving the drives from the Promise controller allowed both the 8.04 and 8.10 installers to proceed without issue. There may be other classes of problems that cause the installer to quietly discard this error.
A similar behavior is seen when "memory test" is selected: the dialog box shows an "Ok" button with the text "memtest" inside the box.
Have you had this problem on 12.04+?
