Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdebase

The function keys on my md 96360 Medion laptop worked fine under kde 4.1. Somewhere after updating to 4.2, I found that starting on batteries reduced brightness to dim (which is as it should be), but no way that it returned to bright, even after restarting with the poweradaptor attached. I have to start from the Windowspartition and set brightness to full, before I can use my screen again under Kubuntu 8.10 !!!

Hitting the fn-f4/f5 keys tells me that brightness goes up or down, but with no effect on the actual screen. The slidebars in the Powerdevil setup are not adjustable.

It really would help if there was a separate utility that would set brightness deep down, near the metal. As it is now, We are too dependable from powersavers and other stuff.
