ubuntu 8.10 detects display incorrectly for trident cyberblade

Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

8.04 allows use of displayconfig-gtk to modify to the correct driver...8.10 appears to require hand modification of xorg.conf file?!

The lcd panel got 800x600 expected 1024x768
Refresh got 56hz/60hz expected ??

$ lspci -nn | grep VGA

This command apparently isn't present anymore, the wiki at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Reporting requested it:
$ sudo ddcprobe

apparently this should be in xorg.conf (the revised xorg.conf does correctly display 1024x768)

Still broken in Karmic.

I think this is upstream in Xorg, but I also think the Trident driver's so old that upstream won't care unless someone submits them a good patch - so if we don't want this broken in Ubuntu we'll have to fix it ourselves first and submit the patch.

This bug report was filed against an old version of Ubuntu.
Can you confirm whether this is still an issue in natty?

If you don't mind, it would be very helpful if you could update the bug
report in launchpad to 'Fix Released' if it is no longer an issue for
you, or if it is still occurring under natty, please tag the bug 'natty'
so it's easier for us to track.
