I was applying a normal patch update.

the update was proceeding normally when the patch seemed to apply my "patched nvidia drivers" during upgrade - my screen went black and then seemed to hang. i hit the power switch after waiting some time, and a "shutdown" broadcast message appeared (typical of a shutdown -now).

i haven't yet checked my logs (and not certain which one to check), but this seemed to be more related to new nvidia driver patch and samba was simply the next package in line in the update patch script.
